Mammography at SEIMC
Our state-of-the art GE digital mammography unit has recently been updated. Mammography uses x-rays to create images of breast tissue to detect and evaluate abnormalities such as tumors and cysts.
Most prominent health organizations such as the World Health Organization, National Cancer Institute, and American Cancer Society, agree that women above the age of 50 can significantly reduce their risk of complications from breast cancer by having a mammogram every 1 or 2 years.
For a breast exam and mammography, please call (86 21) 5879-9999 for an appointment. | |

On-Site Health Care Provider
As part of our ongoing support of the Shanghai community, we provided on-site medical support at two large-scale sporting events in April:

Shanghai was host city to the 2006 Viking Cup: Scandinavians from eight cities around Asia competed aggressively in this soccer tournament. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries, but our physicians were definitely kept busy with strapping and physical therapy!

Shanghai East International Medical Center also participated at the International School's soccer tournament hosted by Concordia International School Shanghai. Congratulations to all the teams on a great competition! |

Basic Workplace Ergonomics -- by Gregory Gipson, DC

Good sitting positions for working at a desk:
Workstation should ensure a balanced body position and alignment of the spine
Workstation allows for the spine to move freely
Sit in a chair without lumbar support to prevent back pain
Work with the arms raised to prevent neck and shoulder pain

Good standing positions, if working for extended time periods:
Positions should avoid over-reaching, reaching above shoulders, or behind body
Position close to work with body facing work-no extreme bending, stretching, or twisting

Proper lighting intensity and quality for work area:
Illumination should allow for seeing fine objects and reading of documents
Poor lighting can cause eyestrain, eye irritation, blurred vision, dry burning eyes and headaches
Reduce any glare or reflection by reducing overall intensity levels and size of light source

Reduce possibilities of back injury when lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling:
Eliminate stressful body movements; excessive bending and twisting while lifting
Examine and modify if necessary, the weight of the load lifted, the range of the lift, the location of the load relative to the body, the size and shape of the load, and the number of lifts performed
Understand and use proper techniques when lifting any object
Lift and carry the object with feet wide and well-balanced, holding it close to your body and making sure you have a good grip on the load
Use any powered or mechanical handling devices when available

Take regular breaks throughout the day and employ stretching exercises to aid hard working tendons and muscles:
Look away form the screen occasionally and focus on distant objects to relax your eyes
Stand up, move around, and change mental activity during rest breaks
