The Extra Mile

Winding up in a hospital while vacationing in a foreign country is bad enough, but when it is your birthday as well, extra TLC is needed!

Ms. Eva Duan, In-Patient Senior Nurse, found out a patient was spending her birthday with us and decided to make it as special as possible. In addition to ordering a birthday cake, Eva had the staff sing happy birthday to celebrate the occasion.

Mammography at SEIMC

Our state-of-the art GE digital mammography unit has recently been updated. Mammography uses x-rays to create images of breast tissue to detect and evaluate abnormalities such as tumors and cysts. Most prominent health organizations such as the World Health Organization, National Cancer Institute, and American Cancer Society, agree that women above the age of 40 can significantly reduce their risk of complications from breast cancer by having a mammogram every 1 or 2 years.

For a breast exam and mammography, please call (86 21) 5879-9999 for an appointment.

Health Tips

Before the visit, read books with your child about other children going to see the doctor

Let your child take along a special blanket or toy. If it's a doll or a teddy, some doctors will examine the toy first to make your child more comfortable.

Avoid telling your child that shots won't hurt. Explain that the needle hurts a little, but that it's to keep people from getting sick.

Explain to your child why they are going to the doctor and answer their questions. Be sure your child understands everything that will happen at the doctor's office.

Encourage your child's school to visit a Western-style hospital as a field trip. This is a fun way to be introduced to medical care.

Never use doctors, nurses, hospitals or injections to scare your child to behave.
