Summer Safety Tips

SPF 15+ Sunscreen should be applied 15 minutes before you go out into the sun or play sports, and reapplied every 2-4 hours. This helps to minimize excess exposure to UV rays which can cause skin cancer.

Avoid playing outdoor sports, including swimming, between 11am and 2pm.

Wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat. This helps protect the eyes against over-exposure to UV rays which is associated with development of cataracts (clouding of the lens in the eye that affects vision).

Drink plenty of water. You should drink 300-500ml of water every hour if you play sports under intense heat.

Stay away from sewage, swamps and marshlands. This minimizes the chance of being bitten by mosquitoes, which carry of a range of diseases.

Don't eat food that has been exposed to heat or open air for too long. Diarrhea and other digestive disorders occur frequently in summer due to poor eating hygiene.
