Breast Cancer Awareness
In 2000, 40,000 women in the UK and 300,000 in the USA were diagnosed with breast cancer. Each year, about 1,700 men in the USA learn they have breast cancer as well.
Detection of breast cancer at an early stage can improve your chance of surviving the disease.
You can easily increase your awareness of breast health by knowing how your breasts usually look and feel.
Do this by paying attention to changes in your breasts, such as:
Development of a lump
Change in size or shape
Irregular thickening of breast tissue
Nipple discharge
Skin redness or warmth
Dimpling or skin texture similar to an orange peel
Retraction of the nipple or area surrounding the nipple
Regular breast self-exams will increase your sense of breast familiarity. Ask your health care provider to advise you on the correct self exam method.
Please consult your health care provider promptly if an irregularity has been discovered.
