What's New?
Awards for Nursing Quality and Infection Control

Shanghai East International Medical Center was recently the only foreign hospital to receive awards for quality from the Pudong Healthcare Workers Association. Our hospital received 2 award certificates for distinguished nursing care quality and for stringent infection control quality.

Out of a total of 8 possible awards, no other hospital received more than one.

We congratulate all our staff on this achievement and thank everyone for their hard work and support!

Antenatal Classes are Back

Shanghai East International Medical Center's new maternity service is now well established with many already booked to have their antenatal care and delivery.

Our inaugural antenatal class last month was very well attended with parents from many countries and led by Dr. Ian Mahady, our senior ob/gyn consultant from the UK. In addition, Dr. Sylvia Dai, Ms. Esther Wong and our midwives Lucy and May answered questions and received very positive feedback from all couples present.

Classes are now available on a regular basis for mothers receiving antenatal care at Shanghai East International Medical Center.

Medical Sponsor at the Australia Day BBQ

Shanghai East International Medical Center provided on-site medical support for the AustCham Shanghai Australia Day BBQ last month. Fortunately, no accidents or mishaps occurred, but all attendees were safely in the capable hands of our medical staff.

This huge Australian BBQ lunch is an AustCham Shanghai tradition which brings families and friends, Australians and the like together to celebrate the Aussie way.

Health Tips

Medication
• Take along enough of your medications in your carry-on luggage.
• Bring enough medicine to last your whole trip.
• Pack extra medicine with you in case your return trip is delayed.

The air in airplanes is dry, so stick with non-alcoholic, decaffeinated beverages and water to avoid becoming dehydrated.

Jet lag avoidance
• Get plenty of sleep before you leave.
• Don't drink a lot of alcohol.
• Eat well-balanced meals.
Avoid over-eating
• Exercise as much as you can on your trip.
• Get used to a new time zone by going along with the local meal and bedtime schedules.

Pain in ears
• Swallow often and chew gum during the flight.
• Babies can suck on bottles or pacifiers during the flight.

An important thing to note for all diving enthusiasts! It's dangerous to fly immediately after scuba diving. You'll need to wait 12 to 24 hours after diving. Ask your doctor or diving authorities for guidelines on flying after scuba diving.
