Health Talk in BISS

SEIMC provides health talks for international schools, foreign communities and compounds, especially for new-comers to Shanghai. This service has always been successful and warmly welcomed by the expat community.

On April 7th, our pediatricians, Dr. Palta and Dr. Jiang gave talks on "Asthma", "Food Allergies", "Diabetes" and "Epilepsy" to the teachers and school nurses of the British International School in Pudong.

Second "Children Emergency" Talk at the Emerald

After a successful talk on "Children Emergency" for the residents at the Emerald on February 28th, SEIMC organized a second talk in Chinese for all the "Ayi's" at their Clubhouse that took place on April 11th.

"Keeping your Back Healthy"

Due to an increase in the number of back problems amongst employees, SEIMC was invited by DOW Chemical to give an informative talk relating to work related back issues, and how these concerns can be alleviated and even prevented. Dr Gipson and Dr Zhang presented two different, yet complimentary approaches to keeping your back healthy, including chiropractic and acupuncture services both of which are offered at SEIMC.

Taiwan Ladies Club Annual Gathering

The members of Taiwan Ladies Club enjoyed a big celebration for their 6th anniversary this month. Besides the Taiwanese businesses in Shanghai, the representatives from the Shanghai Woman's Association and Taiwan Affairs Bureau of Shanghai Government expressed their congratulations. SEIMC, as a designated Taiwanese medical provider, contributed free health screening packages as support for the Taiwanese people who have made Shanghai their home away from home.

BISS Tour

For three days, SEIMC hosted field tours and health talks for the students from the British International School Shanghai. The students were shown all the facilities the hospital has to offer, even experiencing the operation of inpatient beds. They raised many excellent questions during the lecture on healthy eating given by Dr Palta and Dr Jiang. We were impressed by the obvious intelligence and eagerness expressed by the children, and were glad to know that they would only opt for healthy food in the future!

La Leche League Meetings

La Leche League is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed. The second bilingual monthly meeting was held on April 26th in the Function Hall of Shanghai East International Medical Center to offer a special opportunity for expecting and nursing mothers to learn more about breastfeeding, ask questions, and share their experiences with others. Had Too Much to Drink?

With all the constant festivities and goings-on in Shanghai, it's hard to live in moderation. The next time you're out on the town though, just keep a few sobering facts in mind:

Drinking too much alcohol can cause dependency, damage of internal organs and could impair mental health.

Heavy drinkers may not feel intoxicated because of a higher tolerance to alcohol. If a person has developed higher tolerance to alcohol, they can no longer trust their body's signals telling them when they have been drinking too much.

Many experts recommend that most people should have no more than two to three alcoholic drinks on any given day, with at least two drink-free days a week.

Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.
